The Inside Track – Volunteer Interviews

frontrunner William Francis

My name is William Francis and I’m one of the Glasgow 2014 frontrunners who will be carrying out interviews to help find 15,000 Games Time volunteers.

I’m hugely excited about interviews beginning as it’s the next big step on the path to the Games!

I was lucky enough to volunteer at London 2012 and my initial interview engaged and inspired me. One of the reasons I wanted to become a frontrunner is so that I could offer the same experience to those people who are interviewing for Glasgow 2014.

Glasgow 2014 is the biggest multi-sport event to ever be held in Scotland, so being a part of such a massive occasion is hugely important for me. I want to help athletes, visitors and fellow volunteers have a once-in-a-lifetime experience during the Games.

I think there will be a great buzz around the Volunteer Centre on interview days. Everyone who attends the Centre will learn more about the Games, the area they are being interviewed for and they’ll also get the chance to meet fellow volunteers.

Our volunteering interviews will be more informal than a normal job interview. When I attended my frontrunner interview I was nervous, which is natural. However, everyone in the Volunteer Centre helped me to relax and the informal style of the interview made talking about my skills and experiences easy.

The best advice I can offer anyone attending a volunteer interview is to relax, be themselves, and remember all those excellent skills they’ve outlined in their application and how those skills might help them in a Games Time volunteering role.

I want everyone who is interviewed to leave the Volunteer Centre feeling excited about being a part of the friendliest and best Games ever.
